Dear Vikram,

Well you've add the specialties tag for Win2008 & Cloud Computing as well & your question has been answered for Win2008 & AWS but no other vendors of Cloud Computing. It would be best if you mention any vendor specifically to receive exact instructions for the same vendor (Amazon, Rackspace, IBM or MS).

Normally RDP is disabled in corporate networks by default & in case a need arises it’s enabled then the Admin uses it, once the task is finished RDP is again disabled. Also few organization use VNC or Citrix for achieving this task.

Hi,

To enable and use RDP in Microsoft windows you have to complete the following steps:

1. There should be a connection between source and destination machines.

2. Enable the Remote Desktop settings on the computer you will connect to (to do this you  need administrative privileges). To do this:

- Log in with account that has administrative privileges

- Right click on my computer and select Properties

- From the opended page select remote settings from left.

- From the new opened box of remote settings, select the option "Allow remote connections to this computer", and then press OK. Note that if you are connecting from old OS you should uncheck the option : "Allow connections only from  computer running Desktop with network level authentication "

3. The user account you will use for the remote connection must have the permission to connect remotely to the destination machine aslo this account must have password. Note that no need to do these steps if you will connect by using administrator account .

To give permission to a user to connect remotely to a machine do the following:

- Log in with administrative pribileges to the destination machine

- Right click on my computer and select manage

- From the opened page go to local users and groups

- Select Groups

- Select and double click Remote Desktop Users group

- Click Add and then type the name of the user and click add, and then ok.

To disable the RDP, just disable Remote settings and remove the account form the RDP group.
