The more engaged a student is, the more aware he is. Games -as an absolute word- may represent both useful and engaging games, or distractive games -the ones that diverge the student’s attention rather than converging it.

From personal experience, I am always interested in having the big picture around all the time, so that a student can always relate what is he receiving and how pieces are connected. So, i designed a simple concept map for a lecture with missing pieces that are scattered outside the map, and the student have to pay attention to what I say, and try to connect the pieces together. The thing I hoped will caught their attention, engage them, and add some fun and energy to the process.

The essence of the idea was very good, and the recipient highly enjoyed it. However, I made the puzzle harder than needed. The thing that got the recipients more involved in solving the puzzle -and beat each other- than following with me.

Yes, games and engagement are definitely useful for educational purposes, however, we need to always pay attention for the details, detect the defects, and seek optimization as possible.

With many people, sure, usually they help a lot

Making the educational process fun is a very effective way in transferring the information and making them easier to learn.
