There are two types of communication: verbal and nonverbal.

In verbal communication we use words/languages - spoken, written or signed. Nonverbal communication on the other hand makes use of gestures, physical appearance, choice of colors etc.

Now, how does choice of clothing (appearance) affect the education process?

Teachers stand in front of the class for how many hours. With this, students keep their eyes on their teacher, thus, they unconsciously notice and give attention to what their teacher wears. They take note of the color, fabric, fitting, or prints on the clothing the teacher wears and all of these give a certain impression aboutthe teacher. For instance, if a female teacher wears body-hugging clothes, students especially males will be distracted, focusing on the body than of the lesson the teacher delivers. In addition, students will think of their teacher as someone indecent because she wears sexy clothing in school. A male teacher, on the other hand, wearing wrinked shirt may be perceived as someone irresponsible because he does not take the time to iron his clothes. If a person wears loose clothing or clothes that do not fit the body well, that person can be perceived as someone from low society or someone clumsy.

All of what can be seen speak to people. People can be judged by their physical appearance in as fast as three seconds. It is with this that people should be careful in choosing what they will put on, because clothes say something about the person who wears it. People who dress well influence and inspire others while those who do not dress well may give a negative impact.

Therefore, as educators, we must be careful in choosing what to wear because those that we clothe ourselves with can have a strong impact or effect on students, good or bad.
