Translation is referring literally to switch from one language to another. It's aim is to make one sentence understandable in another language. Whereas interpretation takes into consideration the context behind the sentence's meaning. Culture, time, popular expressions are very important in interpretation.

the interpreter translates orally, while a translator interprets written text. Both can expand depending on their love to the language .

many diferences:

Translation focuses on written form. You need to know the rules of written language, you can resort to supplementary aides while translating, like  dictionaries, authors, etc. You make decision on your pace, a time-free process. You can revise and polish. there is a physical presence of the text, etc.

Interpreting focuses on oral form. You need to be fluent orally. supplementary knowledge must be prior. No aides, just focusing and memory. faster decision making, a time-bound process. You cannot revise and polish. there is a physical absence of the text. Simultaneous and concurrent focus at every stage. memory is inevitably needed.

the interpreter can be a translator but the translator can not be a interpreter!!!
