Working hard is not a bad idea, but most of the time there are people who are taking you for granted so you have to work smart instead. Because if you work smart, you know your job well.

Both, but the choice between working hard and working smart depends entirely on the situation.

There is an image circulating in the internet relating to the two. It depicts a group of employees pushing their own solid block towards an unseen goal. One particular employee seems to be resourceful enough to slice the edges of the block into a sphere such that instead of just pushing laboriously, he easily rolled his load towards the goal.

Now here is an analysis of the situation: It was not stated in the image what the purpose of the blocks were. They were just what they were: blocks. Suppose that the actual goal was to stack these blocks to make a pyramid or to build a wall or a building. That "smart" employee who shaved off the edges of his block would surely have a hard time balancing his sphere on the top of the pyramid.

What if the goal was to be able to reach a certain height using all the blocks, with the sum total of the blocks just enough to reach that goal? The sphere would be very difficult to use in this case.

The employee who shaved his block has made his job easier, however, it created a huge dilemma for the overall job of the team. He may have worked smart to help himself, but it surely was useless for the entire team. The others may not have worked smart, but they worked hard by pushing their blocks until the goal.

Working smart is always good, but sometimes, working hard is also very important.

word hard - it make you strong from core level, its fruitful at the end...at starting its a problem, but it makes you eligible for dodging problems in future.

Work Smart is not a good idea, i have seen many they work smart by being a crying baby at the starting and gaining attention, but it harms in long run....at the end they end up working hard, when there is no time.......
