Often times Customer Service Personnel becomes scapegoat.
It is not a thankless job that's what I'm certain especially when your customer appreciates what you did. A "Thank you very much, you've been helpful" is rewarding already. However, if the management can do more to acknowledge the effort of their specialists and provide some rewards or even certificates, it'll be better and helps to motivate to do more or just to be consistent.
No. I dont think it is a thankless job, in fact if you do your job properly - you Customers should be thrilled and be encouraged to return to repeat the excellent transaction !
