Excellent work - every time. Good work is expected ;) still you might mention at quarterly evaluations that you are satisfied.

It depends on the employee. While praises are good because they motivate employees to work more, it is not the same with all employees. For some a praise will mean "yeah I got my goal and can now remain at this point, I'm good already, for such constant praises will discourage further effort because they sleep in the glory of yesterday. identify such employees and withhold praises when neccesary

Be known for giving praises that way employees will know that if  they don't get a praise it means i could have done better and will desire for it.

An employee needs to be praised every time the latter has exceeded your expectations and has really shown that he is ready to go out of his way for the benefits of the company. This is a form of incentive and motivation for the employee. He will feel valued and will be willing to go further for the company.
