As a training and development professional, how do you keep yourself updated on the latest training / professional development news, tools, techniques, strategies? Can you share with us some of the resources you use?

The way is to become a member in international orgnaztion related to the filed. For example isa.org for automation , instrumentation and control which is my filed There asme for mechincal engineer and Ieee for electrical

What areas of your job do you find most difficult or want to improve? For ideas, look at past performance reviews or talk to your manager, colleagues or HR department. Seek advice from those whose skills or career you wish to emulate.

Improving the areas you identify may mean going on a course or workshop, or you may find that mentoring, guided reading, work-shadowing, or online study is more relevant. For instance, if you know that negotiation skills are an increasingly important part of your job, perhaps your manager could arrange for you to shadow someone with exceptional skills in this area, or even coach you themselves through your next negotiation skills project.

There are many websites that can be used for a number of training and development, use LinkedIn, IOSH, Institute of Leadership & Management, these sites offer great opportunities for professional development and also guidance.    

I always find time to go through the basics once in a while. Like read back through basic facilitation skills and adult learning principles. Search on training design models and tools. You'll be surprised how far you have come knowing that you have mastered those stuff you've first read 5-10 years back but also be surprised that Google searches will always lead you to one of the latest or most recent studies/articles about training and development and viola! There comes a new knowledge.

 

Systems wise, i always try to master one tool at a time. I know I'm a late bloomer when it comes to Articulate Storyline but the program is making my life a lot easier in some ways and I'm getting good feedback.
