HR professionals working in talent acquisition, management or L&D are equally working as their strategic partner with business heads. Though, with the concept of HR as Business Partner, we have been experiencing as HR working in assign area or divisions and there the role of HR professional is more tough and demanding and S/he needs to work in multiple role as strategic business partner. In short, I always define as "partner is one who owe profit and loss and he always strive of profit and to earn that profit he must work restless and strategically to flourish the business" so be ready for new role as HRBP :)
