What is leading from the front? Who is the leader to whom his subordinates are ready to give their blood without asking?

Is leadership quality missing in today's managers. What happens when a manager does not lead from the front. He enjoys his year end holidays at home and calls his subordinates who are at work and intimidates them to work hours a day doing the graveyard shift or they would be put under action plan/PCCP.

Gone are the days of great leadership in the battlefield when the commander at the last after the whole regiment had eaten. Now most managers are good at saving their jobs and passing the buck. But it ultimately leads the organization to be top heavy.

I believe the leader - I mean a true leader, is who he leads by example. Doing the issues infront of those who are supposed to be his subordinates or team members is the good way to make work tasks done correctly and effectively.

"Leading from the front"?

What is that?

If I, the leader, am in the front, there will be no telling what is happening behind my back.

Nepoleon was one such leader. In India we had Akbar the creator of the Mughal empire. In the 2nd World war we had PATTON after whom American Patton tanks are made. leadership is missing both in the corporate and political world which is a dangerous trend. If we outsource our leadership to unworthy people by our cowardice we all have to suffer.
