I believe that starting with vocabulary is essential because you need to know what words fit with the idea you're trying to get across. Then grammar would second I think because it'll just be a matter of arranging your sentences correctly, and a lot of that has to do with practice with someone who speaks the language correctly.

I've heard of people who spent several months just speaking the language they want to learn even if it's wrong just so they can get the hang of it.

And as always with learning something new, you can't be afraid or embarrassed of making mistakes!

expnading vocabulary in different areas is the most important thing to me. What I do is I choose a weekly theme for myself where I intensively read about it for the sake of enriching my vocabulary. For example, the first week of the month, I might select " fashion theme", so I read online, magazines, books, I watch movies, I youtube clips on fashion. The week after, I might select " Trourism theme" and I do the same. This helps me greatly broaden and expand my vocabulary base.

I prefere to start with the most common words spoken like greetings and basic communication words used in every day life. Then gradually move to short sentences and phrases. Finally once we have some basic knowledge of the language then concentrate on the grammar.
