He is the front end. He knows how to use the product, when to use, where to use etc. He knows input and output of the complete product life cycle. But it is not him who uses the input to build the output.
It is the technical people who gets the requirement input and delivers to finished output. Technical Support deals with single / multiple products with indepth knowledge technically (software / Hardware / middleware). He is the backend.
It will be a rare combination of people with both product and technical skills.
