It really depends on the company and often, different titles for the same freaking job. Some jobs have inflated job titles while others are not. For example, in this case, engineer means NOTHING! It's an exagerration. Information Technology field has abused this word so bad. It's like calling somebody a customer service engineer...when they just doing customer service. However, in general. -Desktop Support - you support desktop. You're more hands on computer desktops. You replace hardware. Provide service for corporation. Provide service for employees inside company. However, people working at staples or best buy can take this job title as well. -helpdesk - you take phone calls and fix software issues over the phone, or remote connect to people's computers and fix it. Provide service for employees inside company.. -Technical support engineer - support company products to external customers. Example, cisco makes routers and the tse provide customer service. Paid very well. . -Technical support rep - low level and low pay. provide general first point customer service , often for lower products. Often, companies may use all job titles in the same or different ways. All generally provide phone support.
