Which can you tolerate more and still give your best, a bad manager who gives you a hard time OR an overload of work?

By a bad manager here I mean a dictator who micromanages and doesn't leave space for anyone to contribute. He wants a herd executing his commands all the time. He interferes in how you do the job and not only what to do. He is impersonal, which means he doesn't care about his employees' personal and social life, he only cares to boss around.

An overload of work with no disturbance or interference can be tolerated and infact can be easily completed, but when there is disturbance and interference in performing the job then even a little work will become difficult to be completed.

A manager as such will never be successful within their career progression. It's easier to tolerate work overload because you gain satisfaction once you've overcome that stress and accomplished a high standard task it's merely a passing phase which occurs regularly in a well established organisation because of demand and reputation. However a manager who dictates their employees will only generate intolerance, dislike and possibly distance between them and their employees. In this situation I think senior management should be consulted with advice as to how to proceed because some may be able to handle this dictator and some may not. Management dictatorship can affect employees psychological and emotional behaviour towards their role and that should be addressed either directly on a one-to-one with the manager causing this distress or senior level as I mentioned. No one should feel uncomfortable and incompetent because of the characteristic nature of certain management.

In my humble opinion, a manager who gives me hard time means to look for another job!

I can definitely work under pressure & handle work overload, but I'll never be able to tolerate a bad manager & still give my best.

Work load teaches us to prioritize our tasks while work overload teaches us to be even smarter than the normal us on normal working days.

On the other hand, a bad manager will never be an added value for anyone unless willing to imitate those bad managers.

I will tolerate a bad manager to a limit. If even I am giving the best out of me for the job and he still give me a hard time, that means it is time to move on. Find another job not telling them why you are leaving the old one. You always want new horizons for better prospects. We are never married to one job for ever.
