The art of good communication between employer and employees

Be clear about what you are trying to achieve and explain to employees, or their representatives or both, whether you are informing, consulting or negotiating with them.

You should encourage a two-way flow of information between employees and managers.

Consider:

  • >>  Holding regular meetings
  • >>  Using language your employees understand - not jargon
  • >>  Keeping discussions focused, relevant, local and timely
  • >>  Using open-ended questions to draw out ideas from employees
  • >>  Ensuring your communications reach every employee, ie don't forget part-time workers, home workers and absent workers (for example, those on statutory leave and those absent due to sickness)
  • >>  Using social events to break down barriers and build up trust

When you need to communicate controversial or sensitive issues, eg poor company results, you should do this face-to-face. It's usually better to have a senior manager discussing such important matters. The advantage of spoken, face-to-face communication is that it's a direct and effective way to get across facts. It can't be relied upon completely because misunderstandings and rumours can arise - you may wish to reinforce it with written confirmation.

You may also want written information available for employees to refer to.

Make sure that whoever talks to the employees is fully briefed, and provide an opportunity for employees to ask questions:

  • >><<   If you are asked a question you don't know the answer to, say so - don't bluff
  • >><<   If there is no answer, explain why
  • >><<   If you can get an answer by a given deadline, tell them this

Effective written communication is typically accurate, brief and clear. It's good practice to have copies of all business policies and information in one place which employees have access to,

eg an intranet. Employees can look up procedures, duties and contract terms at their convenience or when they need clarification.

Yes.

Effective business communication is a must for anyone in the business world.

  1. It shows your employee that you care about them

  2. They not just a number in your company

  3. Get to learn more about the employee

Yes it's important for company owners to have as much contact as possible with their employees to reassure them that they are valued within the organisation also to who that they are just as involved as any other person within the company. Sometimes when information is passed on directly from those who are senior it adds emphasis of it's importance and it's better understood. It enhances the relationship between employer and employee resulting in higher productivity rates, satisfaction within work and an increase in efficiency.

Yes I do belief be cause it increases efficiency for the organization as well as employee.

Yes it is beneficial but the level of employees should be categorized or distinguished.

This should not mean that a floor cleaner may go and meet the owners !!!!

It doesn't always happen in reality. But let's stick to the fact that the voice of the people is still the voice of God. The real issues of an organisation commonly originates from our people down the line. This small things are far more serious to look upon if we aim for a healthier working environment.

Depending on the work force it's not feasible for employers to intract with all his employees on regular basis. But events like department wise get together parties are certainly a good idea where owners meet and intract with their employees.
