No, if I were to take a lower salary, downgrade or benefits etc  for the sole reason of not being a Citizen, I shall resent myself for it. And this may lead to lower productivity and switching jobs frequently, which no one wants.

I shall take a job only if it fits my life's goals and provide me appropiate compensation for the same, has a decent learning curve and challenges my skills.

I f we watch what is going on in GCC countries ,this is really happening.

with uae its called EMIRATIZATION,is saudi arabia it is SAUDIZATION,in Jordan it is JORDANIZATION,....this going every where in the middle east now.

the reason is that there are laws to protect citizens of the country but no laws or regualtions to protect or support expats.

in UAE it is still not very clear yet because emirati nationals are out numbered ,available position wise and experience wise.

you have many foreign companies out there, they have their own staff and they are required now to employ emiraties, which is good in terms of personell mix.

in saudi arabia  it is much clearer since no. of saudi applicants is high due to the poplulation being larger, but saudi nationals are getting paid higher wages and replacing foreign expats.

I Guess its purely depends on patience and urgency of a candidate who want to settle in a different loctaion from Home country. If some one has10 or15 years experience and if he is offered a job which2-3 years experience candidate can do then he/she is not adding any value because position is beginner salary also would be low so then you have to make many sacrifices I understand you dont know local conditions, language and you dont have experience so employer will consider all these things into account.

But if you can excel in English which is Business language and globally accepted, if you have confidence of fight any odds, situations and challenges thrown at you I guess above factors doesnt matter and candidate can really do well may be exceeding expectation of recuriter and company which is hiring so its all about mind set , experience and how well you adapt to alien conditions.
