Primavera is a detailed project scheduling and monitoring tool, with its capabilities limited only to the level of detail that you incorporate in your schedule. For progress measurement primavera can be rated between (6 to 10) based on the details that you are incorporating in it, i.e. activities loaded and update for resources, physical progress, costs & remaining forecasted durations. The factors that can influence the choice of primavera base progress measurement system would be,

1. The No. of activities to be updated

2. The frequency of update (i.e. daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, Quarterly)

3. The amount of detail to be updated

For large projects it is practical to use a combination of Excel & Primavera to develop your project measurement system.
