“Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” What does this statement mean?

It means they planted and we harvested and we plan for them to harvest.

Doing good is always the salvation of man

 You should pay back .....as you tack you should give .. Do something for others..... That  what Nobels do.
