Future trend is moving towards internet marketing which includes both ATL & BTL marketing.

As a consultant, I come across a range of different industries, each with a differing set of opportunities and concerns. Perhaps if your question was more specific to a certain industry and region of the world, I could be of help, in providing a singular answer. In general ATL and BTL are both time tested trends and will continue in some form or the other.

for me its BTL as in my industry (laboratory equipment) its more effective and ROI is better.
