I am not sure what do u mean by deploying a website online, but i think your are talking about hosting a website!

You need to buy and register a domain name.

You need to build a hosting server with public IP ( MS, Tomcat, linux etc...)and depending on the content of your website you will add the applications needed like .net , java, html, xml, sql server, etc...

if you are knew to this i recommend buying a hosting package from for example ixwebhosting, godady etc... and just upload ur website files online.

As specified above, with some additions

get a domain name,

get a hosting package

add the domain name to the hosting package and point the domain name to the hosting,

Upload your website via FTP (filezilla for windows is perfect, I guess cyberduck for MAC)

The FTP details are provided by your hosting company and you should upload in public_html that's the root folder.
