As in my case i am Gold medalist in my Engineering but my experience is one year Bahrain as electrical engineer ... most of the time i have to compete applicants having more experience but less educational excellence how to gain attraction by employers.
Yes education matters in getting a job and sometimes excellence in performance or being a topper /gold medalist will surely get preferences but sometimes there are many people who has pool of talent and land in odd jobs so finding a right job to show the talent and education is equally important.
What is thought in theory and what you learn in experience is totally different.
A person who can bring his education handy in his work is termed as true genius.
Even if you don't have that much experience to compete with experienced applicants still you have a room to get hired. As Mr.Mike Emerson opined, your cv is important as it reflects your personality, knowledge, skills, experience and education. Always make sure to add your knowledge database and your training&developments details about the specific position that you apply if you don't have previous expereince in it.
If you are confident about your knowledge, academical background and communication skills make a video CV where you can sell yourself if you are real talented.
I have experienced this situation in my son's case. B.A ( Hons) from Europe, MBA from Europe, but who cares? They all want low paid employees with no qualifications to boot and they will teach him the job over a period of time. That is the mentality. Qualifications can open doors but experience is required so one has to start at a lower position at a lower salary and work your way up through performance and perseverance. This is the way M.E works.
An experienced person always looks for a better opportunity, you can attract the employers by demanding a bit less salary package. The other thing you can do is to assure the employers for your loyalty means a specific time period service bond.
Truly speaking, both experience and academic excellence can’t be viewed in isolation and they have their specific application. Both the fields are interrelated with each other. Remember, experience is gathered through the time process in practical fields and it takes time to accumulate a reasonable experience. Academic excellence is equally important for you to start with experience. Generally, experience is more applicable for the top positions who needs to work independently, whereas, academic excellence helps to get the opportunity to earn the experience further.
experience is very much countable becuause i understand the difference in education but you cant beat the experience.
