What is the difference between Diversified Company and ‘multi-industry’?

Diversified company and Multi industry company has some basic differences.But both are almost the same.

Diversified company: Companies entering into new Business in which it is not currently present or company that has multiple unrelated business. Diversified companies requires . unique management expertise, Different customer and different Product.Ex- ITC, Hitachi

Multi Industry companies: Company engaged in entirely different business under one PARENT COMPANY. It also refer as conglomerate. Ex- Samsung, Toshiba, Tata Group

The basic difference lies here that  company diversified itself by entering into new business not necessarily entering in different industry, it can enter into new business in same industry.

Company which are Multi-industry engaged itself in different Industry which are not related. Like Tata group runs steel company, Taj group of hotels, Tata tea , Tata Motors , West side and so many.
