Yes if you have asked to stop the marketing than it would be same to save time by stopping watch, which drags the hell on upper layer.

Advertising & promotional campaigns have a purpose. Once that  purpose is maximized for a product line, budgets can be minimized or stopped completely to save the cost.

It depends on the strategy when and how to reinforce the marketing through advertisement. There a certain businesses and brands you cant see ADV/promo for years but again came with a bang and sweep the market.
