Is it a bad SEO practice if my text is in tables?

Using tables for layout only and not for tabular data is a bad practice but those not affect SEO, but who knows what happens in the near future, so:

- Is it bad to put text in tables? The answer is yes.

- Is it bad for SEO to put text in tables? The answer is no.

Which is more costly, to create a new table or alter current table in postgresql?
