In short, a businessman is any person that engages in a series of economic activities to earn a profit. An entrepreneur, on the other hand, is someone who conceives an idea or a solution to a current problem that the society is facing, finds investors and sets up an enterprise to offer his expertise to the general public.
A businessman is "programmed" and will have a more predictable and conservative approach, generally. An entrepreneur will be more "spontaneous" and go with more "gut feelings" than conventional actions and is more likely to incorporate a greater risk element into his dealings.
While I like the comparisons made between an "entrepreneur" and a "businessman", I think the two terms can legitimately be used interchangeably, in some cases. Being a former entrepreneur myself, the only major differences I can think of are:
An Entrepreneur is a person who has the confidence, the skill and the risk taking abilities to establish his own business by investing initial capital from his personal resources & wealth.
A Businessman is a person who may be running an established business which may have been started by some other person.
All Entrepreneurs are Businessmen but not all Businessmen are Entrepreneurs.
An entrepreneur is a person who convert resources into wealth and a businessman is his dealer or agent.
entrepreneur is a street smart and a visionary who brings life to a business...
