When you are responsible on team , department or huge organization what do you think the first task you must take in consideration?

My first task should be to learn about the team,depatment or oragnisation in details.Example If you are leading a cleaning team you should learn how they clean, the processes they use , the chemical involved , the risks involved , the time it takes to accomplish some tasks , Get to know the indepths of the team and their operations.
