The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born - that there is a genetic factor to leadership. This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. That's nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born.

I believe that this statement is true. That is not to say that there is no need for leadership education and traaining. But such education and training will only be effective for born leaders.

leaders must have soft skills and hard skills, so they are born and then made

In my view everyone is born with a potential to be a leader. It is only the circumstance that make him a leader or otherwise. If you study life of any leader deeply, you will find many incidents and mentors who made them acheive all this.

Now some people are more responsive to this training and mentoring so they develop these qualities early, while others may get them later. Some may not receive them at all.

So believing in ones ability to be a leader is what makes the difference

In my opinion everyone is a born with the ability to lead. It is initiative that many fail to act on. I think that the phrase "leaders are born and not made", refers to rebirth. Meaning, leaders are born from the trials, tribulations, hardships and successes experienced throughout life and career.
