What would you do to motivate an employee to perform better and show his/her full potential if now they are showing half of their capacity?

Value his opinions and make him a participant in brain storming sessions,provide him with challenging assignments, and get his feedback on current processes .

I will start by knowing what motivates him/her. I will then plan how to make achieving the company's goals within the agreed performance will coinside with achieving his/her motivation criteria. If required, I will seek my management's approval for the plan. I will then decide on the best way and time to present my plan to him/her and proceed accordingly. I will then follow up the progress to adjust the course of action if required and within my capacity.

Employees underperform when they lack motivation  or when they have unclear instructions or both. Employees can be motivated by the following:

1-To show them that they have a stake in performing to their full capacity. The rewards and incentives system should be clear to them and should be implemented ( not just ink on paper).

2-The emplyees should enjoy a system of recognition. Than -you letters, a pat on the back, praise, etc. in addition to financial rewards such as a salary raise, a bonus, etc.

3-Incentives, rewards, and recognition should be immediate, and should never be delayed.

4-The employees should receive clear instructions, and should believe in what they do.

 

Of course, after making all the above available, and the employee still underperforms, he should be penalized. A penal system should be in place, but after all possitive reinforcement efforts have been exhausted.

First and foremost is that it he / she understand themselves and know that they can have better, then you will be able to provide that its maximum. Give them tasks that we know can be done even if they are not aware of, because it will reassure ourselves and begin to increase their confidence and prove to themselves that they can succeed and have the knowledge to do so. They must have the self-confidence that they know and they can, and it takes time and some people just can not have.
