they are leadership/behavioural theories developed by Douglas McGregor. Theory X assumes that all employees are inherently lazy and that they need to be constantly motivated by the management to do any type of job. Theory y believes that employees are self starters and passionate about work, and that management should rely on them to accomplish their work the way they see fit as accomplishing work is their natural drive.
