As the name indicates, it is a combination of Lean and Six sigma.
Lean is based on the principle of waste elimination from the processes. Value stream map is used extensively to identify Non value added activities in a process and actions will be initiated to eliminate them.
Six sigma is based on the principle of reducing variation in the processes and thus reduce defects. There are methodologies used like DMAIC or DMADV for running the sixsigma projects.
Combination of both helps in reducing cycle time / Lead times and reduce variation and defects.
Lean and Six Sigma that results in
the elimination of the eight kinds of
wastes ( Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-Utilized Talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Extra-Processing)
and provision of goods and service at a rate of3.4 defects per million opportunities (DPMO).
Lean six sigma is a compination of lean and six sigma which help you to do the work fast (by lean) and correct by six sigma For example consider a pasket pall player is going to throw10 balls into the pascket so by appling the lean consept "elemnat waste" he will throw it by using min time and six sigma will be used to make sure all10 balls will be in the basket
Lean is identifying & eliminating waste from a process which leads to cycle time reduction, cost reduction & improves quality. It target7+1 type of wastes in the process.
Six Sigma is a structured approach which uses analysis of data through statistical tools to reduce the variation in the process to eliminate the defects, it started with voice of customer.
The combination of both (Lean Six Sigma) will help in all mentioned aspects plus it is the best method of data driven decision making.
