I advocate that but with small exception that give him or her chance to be powerful if they fail then use power distance.

After the impact of recession I believe we can't survive with high power distance.
Teams are flatter yet load of the work is high, need is to distribute power and authority to take decisions.
Be there to help or guide them and protect their backs but make them stronger.
Now we don't need clerks in our teams who can do exactly as per our instructions rather define the goals/objectives and watch how they will achieve those targets.
Innovation, creativity, passion, fun, energy are the new ways to work and autocratic, bureaucratic cultures are a goner.

The thing is how distant power should be? Of course, this is measured by the power distance index. Therefore, the same power distance can not be advocated across the board. However, some power distance should be there depending on the culture, management style, corporate culture, etc. power distance exists in various degrees among not just superiors and subordinates, groups and teams, but among colleagues as well. Some colleagues manage to have more power than their peers, even if minimal.
