I do not recall certain rules in any Project Management methodology I've read, but I would say it would be mainly linked to availability, being able to link back to the two projects objectives, and really work towards achieving these objectives rather than achieving the leanest outcome for both, and attempt to aviod potential conflicts of interests by assigning a governance committee (different ones when applicable), and allocating key people for each project. You could gain from it by having more flexible resourcing that could be used as needed for both projects, none of these however need to be a core member.
there are rules nor regulatiions for managing more than one project. you just need to have the skills/ ability, knowledge, experience and the tools to be able to manage more than one
Time Management
If these projects are linked to a common objectives they should be managed together as part of programme if the desired strategic benefits are to be achieved.
Well it is the matter of how to handle it. first things first ask for the deadline of two projects we have a time and have a reason to do it. deadlines that;s the challenge.
1- Project policies and procedures adhered to
2- Financial Analysis and Project Costing
3- Financial Management and delivery in time
To manage more than one or two projects at the same time you need to fulfill the following procedures sufficiently:
You need to establish tide schedules for each project and then to group them in one globle schedule. You need then to avoid contradictions in the globle schedule.
Provide the projects with active and effective central logistic & resource management department for smooth flow of project requirements.
Repare good lines of communications and avoid conflicts.
Arrange for enhanced financial management to ensure fair distribution of company cash.
Hire well selected projects' staffs that are capable of executing the projects perfectly.
Last but not least, you have to be on top of every action monitoring, tracing and managing progress
TO MANAGE MORE THAN ONE PROJECT TOGETHER WE SHOULD OBEY THE FOLLOWING RULES
1. MAKE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SITE IN CHARGE
2. VISIT OR HAVE CONTACT WITH HIM DAILY
3. FREQUENTLY ASK HIM THAT HE COULD ACHIEVE THE TARGET
4. IF TARGET NOT ACHIEVED ASK THE REASON AND MAKE SURE THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE MENDED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
5. MAKE SURE THAT THE WORK IS GOING ACCORDING TO THE PLAN
6. IF THE SITE IN CHARGE IS INCAPABLE REMOVE HIM
To know how to coordinate with the site managers in each project working under you as the"PM , PE or Foreman " , and it is very important to have qualified and experienced ones .
To be aware about the real site situation and work progress .
Logistics support whenever needed .
In case of work progress drops or stops in one site you have to manage it yourself closley until things rn again normally .
Always check and visit your client from time to time to know his satisfaction about your stuff and the work in general .
The Most important issue is to follow up the project financial situation and the cash flow .
If the2 or more projects have a common objective then it is Program Management.
It's a matter of logistics model to deliver the right thing in the right time window to the right people.
