Actually, On The Job training is core to develop individual Job skills and research found that learning of employees comes from OJT,based on right method .PRINCIPLES OF ON-THE-JOB TRAINING PREPARATION - The aim of the training session, (containing an action verb and a standard). - Deciding the content, sequence, steps, key points, what you will say, questions you will ask and method (training task breakdown sheet). - Each training session to only contain as much as the learner will be able to absorb - Everything ready:- equipment, material, suppliers. GIVING INSTRUCTION TELL_________ILLUSTRATE_____________PRACTISE___________SUPPO RT  T I P S 1. TELL – Prepare the learner (10% of session) - Put the learner at ease, smile and introduce yourself - Ask about any experience that may be helpful in the new job - Get learner interested in learning (incentives to learn) - Describe the job - Explain how the job fits into the big picture and its importance - Indicate your confidence that the learner has the ability 2. ILLUSTRATE – Demonstrate the operation (20% of session) - Go through the job step by step (using the training task breakdown sheet) - Emphasise key points - Give reasons why - Instruct clearly, patiently at a pace and using words suitable for the learner - Ask open ended questions frequently (to get the learner to think)  - Maintain learner’s interest - Recap 3 PRACTISE –Have the learner do the job under your supervision (70% of session) - Correct errors as they occur - Use open ended questions to check learner’s understanding of key points - Have the learner explain what they are doing and why - Keep giving plenty of encouragement - Ensure the task is done correctly 4 SUPPORT – Put the learner on the their own - Name person who will help them if they are stuck - Encourage questions - Have the learner checked on as often as necessary
