Today, our greater understanding of motivation and human psychology has enabled us to recognise that self-evaluation is potentially far more powerful, especially when used by leaders and technical specialists.

 What to evaluate:

The key, then, is to find ways to help people build an accurate picture of how they’re doing, so that they can make some key decisions about the following:

 1. How am I performing against expectations?

 2. What are my areas for development?

 3. What strengths and capabilities can I deploy for greater impact?

 4. How should I change my behaviour and approach?

These four questions are absolutely essential for anyone hoping to enhance their performance and impact. They need to be able to answer each question with sufficiently accurate knowledge, feedback and insight. So what’s the best way to evaluation your own performance? Explain how you evaluate your own work and why it is necessary to do so?

I will collect feedback from supervisor, clients and other workers regarding my performance.  When I evaluate my work, it is important to breakdown job description into specific tasks and define/determine the standard to which each of the tasks should be performed. I should assess my performance of these tasks in terms of feedback I receive and my own judgment of my capabilities. I must identify any gaps between expected and required performance and actual performance. I need to take action to address them. I need to seek help from supervisor for training or education session to improve my skills and knowledge. It is necessary to identify own limitations, weakness. Self-evaluation, help to determine whether the skills currently I have are sufficient or whether they need to be improved.

2.  What are the critical aspects of receiving and giving feed back?

Feedback should be constructive and given in ways that point to what you are doing well and offer strategies for improvement. We need to accept feed back as a means to improvement.

Feedback should be relevant, appropriate and consistent people work towards improving performance.

Have clear goal.

Feel valued.

When giving feedback, use positive, non-discriminatory language, make instructions, be supportive, non critical sarcastic.

Feedback is most effective, if given as soon as possible after the event to which relates.

Use appropriate procedures to develop strategies.

Do not allow personalities or character traits.

3.  What professional development opportunities have you sought?

Regular (CPD) or Continuous Profession Development,  In-service education and training sessions in updating skills and knowledge about new issues regarding eg. Pain management, wound care and wound care product, palliative care, medication management, dementia, management of aggression, challenging behaviour, legal and ethical issues.etc.

4.  What is the importance of upgrading skills?

An up-to-date knowledge  and understanding regarding all new issues.  This allows no mistakes on the job.

Provide the best quality care to the resident according to the changing demands of a society.

Develop multi-tasking skills to provide best quality care to the community and society.

5.  What industry developments do you consider will have an effect on your organizations practices over the next few years and might therefore affect your skills requirements?

Community service organizations should be aware that the quality of service they offer must meet changing demands and be compliant with the expectations of communities and of the whole of society.

The competencies of organization staff members must be regularly upgraded and requirements for more highly qualified and multi-skilled staff should be created for by management.

Evaluating your work

As part of the project you will be required to produce a comprehensive review, which incorporates feedback from others.

The project process

Consider how well you planned your work and managed your time. Look at whether you met the deadlines outlined in your plan. You will need to assess what, if, then anything or everything, went wrong and why it went wrong. You will also need to consider the reviewers who provided feedback and evaluated your work.

Checking the content

Look back at the requirements of the SPB and ask yourself:

  • Have you met the project objectives?
  • Is the final content effective?
  • It is fit for purpose and audience?
  • Could it be improved?
  • Does the mix of components enhance the message you are trying to convey?
  • Is the information organised in an appropriate manner?

Your own performance

During this project you will have developed new skills. You will need to evaluate your performance during the project and the skills developed, and what you would do differently if you did the project again. You will need to make valid suggestions on how to improve the quality of your work. Examples: communication (3 c’s that is clear, concise, and correct), decisions (regular and priority with basis on facts), performance (Integrity and consistency in good practice), Diverse skills, moral and respect for the community you work in.

Presenting the review

You will need to consider the format you are going to use to present your review. It could be by written evaluation, relevant information and interesting presentation or verbally. Include whichever option you chose in the e-portfolio.

Being yourself is the key element to success.  It pays in the long run and going the extra mile to help another person.  read something new everyday and learn from it.

I used to evaluate my self-worth, but I don't anymore, because I find self-evaluation to be destructive and counter-productive. Why? Because we tend to be overly critical and disparaging when evaluating ourselves. It's human nature, and it leads to lower self-esteem and self-confidence. And really speaking, evaluating it is not as important as building it.Instead of trying to evaluate what I'm worth, I now aim to develop a true sense of self-worth via self-compassion i.e the practice of treating myself with the same kindness and compassion as I would treat a friend. I try and follow the COAL attitude.
