Of course.

Someone shared with me, and I believe it's true, that one way to better understand a culture you're unfamiliar with is to read the stories that that culture tells it's children.  Those stories will tend to represent the values, norms and societal rules that culture wants to instill in it's children and, hence, celebrate within its society.

The stories that are then later shared amongst adults and elders usually illustrate further exploration of those values, norms and societal rules.  They may, at various times, emphasize, challenge and even reject them in many different ways, contributing to the growth trajectory of that community.

The sharing of literary fiction - storytelling - is a form of collective communication and debate about the fundamental principles of any given society.

yes it is also a suttle way of covening your messege.
