It depends on what the job demands. If the job involves young energy then young professionals or interns are hired. And when the Job needs experienced individual definitely the older individuals are hired. As you can't get 30 yrs of experience from a 25 yr old, is it? And in the same way the level of energy and grasping power from a 45 yr old.

in some certain jobs, yes

but to be fair enough, as long as the candidate can do the tasks and having enough experience , so, it's OK

If aged employees are hired, it's because of their experience and their expertise. If young ones are hired, that is due to their energy and innovation.

Unfortunately in some countries age matters a lot and people who reached their 40s find it very hard to find a job regardless of their experience. Of course it's a sick stereotype but it happens.
