Health and Wellness is the first line of defense of every company.A sickly employee cannot function well.Even how good is the strategy,techniques or tactics if your employees health is deteriorating.Some companies globally are now utilizing health and wellness as their first line of defense and example of this is the IBM and some others.Employees when healthy,they are more productive, absenteeism is avoided and so their is a continuous flow of work.Costumers also are attracted to a healthy environment.

Defense against what?

If your answer is "anything and/or everything", then the first line of defence is the time and mental space offered to the CEO and other top managers.  It is their thoughts about the present and the future, and the decisions they make about the people and advisors they hire, and the plans they lay ... and none of these things will be their best unless they have the opportunity to think clearly about something other than what happened yesterday or this quarter's results.

Remember, "The best defence is a good offense."

But if we look at it from a different point of view, the Public Relations Department are sometimes the first line of defense..

when there is a bad publicity or the company is losing customers or the company shares are going dwon; it is the role of public relations to step in and save the day.

Thanks for invitation and your remarks,I do believe that the1st., line defense in our today's institutions are "The Risk Management Departments", considering that the "health and wellness" for the staff is of course, one of the risks that has to be handled and mitigated by "Risk Management Department".
