Recently in the last few years video production became a main source of marketing (Digital marketing) even it was involved too much in offline marketing.
But after all it comes back to the brand itself and the marketing strategy you based depending on the brand!

Well it depends on the brand story you're trying to tell. If it's A Day In The Life type of story, absolutely!
Content, community engagement and discourse itself is more important and can be achieved without any visual content. The community is also interested in participating within your product therefore, video is not necessarily important. However, it may help when marketing a product that needs visual address.
Previously, YES, video production was essential in marketing. However, nowadays, marketing can be done in several different environments (i.e social media, F2F, etc. ). Once you are aware of your stakeholders, you can choose the most appropriate tool to reach out and give them your message.
