Sales man is not just doing sales and getting you business, he is the one who represent your company front of each customer you have.

first you should make him comfortable inside the company (salary- commotion- vacations-and even discounts for his customers).

second if you will just keep pushing him to get sales that will not always work you have to help him and show him different ways to handle the client.

always award him and he will work for you before the company,salary, commotion and anything.

Well i personally believe for sales executive or personnel, thier should be a flexible professional behavior of top management to give him authority for the basic sales generating tools to meat the most specific person in any firm with the decision making authorities, more to it he should be briefed about the policies, rules and regulation, should be well trained, should be demonstrated his main key responsiblities and boundaries to work in.SALES or BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT business is a role includes different scenarios when you particularly approach any firm with the product you are advertising/marketing/selling to a for, pr a company that includes department to approach, chain of commands, top management, decision making authorities, financial budgetary plan.When a sales person go outdoor to generate sales, he should be given full authority and thier shouldn't be any restriction or barrier to his role. That's only way a sales/business development person could make his smart moove. Management trust, faith, flexibility is more important on sales executive rather oppose a work load or pressure on him/her.
