Put the limit switch in pit at high level and low level due to which pump starts in auto and shut in auto so through this activity pump never run in dry condition
we have mostly two options for that either add a level sensor for the tank and connect it with pump through a PLC system or add level gauge with sensor.

may be provided pump trip setting at low current means pump flow is going downside.
