Multi-tasking is a smarter way of maximizing manpower, yes. But how far can we stretch adding to many functions to multi task without overloading them?

Multi Task is OK but not to overwhelm and stretch an employee spreading them too thinly diminishing their productivity making them unable to maintaining efficiency and effective in performing their jobs.

Each employee has a limit and effective level where they can only performer at their best. Please comment logically, realistically and not theoretically

Hi Joe,

My answer to the poser is based on a small alteration/ addition of words that i would like to have in the question that has been put into. Hence, request to please read this in the light of the change made:

Multi-tasking is a smarter way of maximizing man hour, yes.

"OR"

Multi-tasking is a smarter way of maximizing output, yes.

My answer is;

While loading the people with additional task, it is the duty of the controlling supervisor to monitor and see that the quality of work is not getting compromised. Common symptoms that indicate employee burn out is; delayed completion of assignment(s), shift of balance in his/ her behavioral attitude and lack of interest. If these signals are visible, it is time to re-look into the entire scheme of things all over again.

It is not easy to predict so, yet again, it would be workable with light industries and life style sector, but it could not workable with heavy industries. A sector-wise feasibility study has to be contacted before declaring any successful result.
