A public speaker should definitely be a good listener. The reason being is that as a Public Speaker, you are trying to convey a certain agenda to the crowd, with that you want to be able to listen to what the people you are speaking to have to say, their questions, their comments, their possible rebuttals to what you as the public speaker have to say.

By listening to them and understanding what they have to say, you can reply to them accordingly and assist them far better than of course not listening, as a Public Speaker you are also your own PR (Public Relations) Agent. You want to have excellent press about you. This will help grow the public speaker.

Yes, they should because they need to listen to the audience. This includes both understanding and replying to verbal feedback and questions, and perceiving and responding to non-verbal clues, i.e. the ability to "read the room" and adapt the presentation to the mood of the audience.

A public speaker needs to be charismatic for starters. Being a good listener helps engage better with future audiences.

In general, speaker can't listen ! One starts speaking when he/she knew something by listening / hearing else where and got convinced to speak out else where to educate the listener.

However, if he/she is really interested in expanding the listeners volume, the speaker should hear the feedback to sharpen the skills of presenting what the speaker learnt.

Wisdom speaks and wise listen. when wise gives feedback, wisdom will listen. Otherwise the speaker's wisdom is diminishing.

Both Wisdom and Wise knew.....When words are many sin is not absent and therefore they hold tongue to listen.

Of course yes, both are required in public meetings and conferences in addition to presenattaion skills , extra skills are required for reading audiances' body languages to know if the speech is interesting or if there are any claims ...etc for instances some public speakers should avoid long boring speech and try to ask audiances about their views or somewhat if there are any questions or vague issues so they should be a good listeners too.
