 To whom it may concern,

n  TweakUI is a Control Panel add-on, which has been developed by Microsoft programmers, and distributed in various ways by Microsoft, while at the same time, never quite being an official part of Windows, or officially supported by MS. In another words, TWEAKUI is one of the most known Windows Powertoys/Powertools (issued but not supported by Microsoft) to tweak the User Interface (UI).

n  Tweak UI, an official tool from Microsoft, isnt so much a repair tool but a tool to make small tweaks to Windows XP based system. Although Microsoft did develop Tweak UI Power Tool as a method of changing some of the default settings, Microsoft does not support this tool.

n  The past time many (free and commercial) tweak applications have seen the light. Most of them have even more options than the Microsoft TWEAKUI tool. Essentially they all work the same, but with different interfaces.

n  There are several different versions--one for Windows95/NT4.0 and one for Windows95/98/NT if Internet Explorer4.0 or later is installed--the difference being the changes resulting from IE4’s Active Desktop, a so-called TweakUI2000 (aka version1.33) and a version for Windows XP. The XP version is totally different.

n  The original, Win95 version can be downloaded from Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/WUToys/W95PwrToysSet/Default.asp. You’ll find TweakUI-95 along with a number of other possibly useful little utilities. Despite its name TweakUI-95 works fine with Windows98,98SE, ME, NT4, etc

n  The very different version for Windows XP can be found, along with other XP Powertoys at: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

n  Most people never find out Tweak UI exists. First released as part of Microsoft's Power Toys applications for Windows95, Tweak UI is, essentially, a control panel that agglomerates nearly all Windows interface settings controls within a single location. The current version is compatible with all versions of Windows--95 and98,2000, NT4, and Millennium. Microsoft doesn't offer any support for it, but it's simple to use.

n  Microsoft has also released Tweak UI1.33. The Microsoft Windows Shell Development Team has put together a set of productivity tools called PowerToys. Microsoft has also released an XP version. TweakUI for XP is now available as part of the PowerToys for XP. That software is designed for Windows XP (and2003 Server); some users have reported some success with it on32-bit versions of Vista, but not on Vista64.

n  Unfortunately, Microsoft has never released a TweakUI for Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows7. For users who enjoyed the TweakUI in Windows XP and earlier versions of windows we recommend using The Windows Club Ultimate Windows Tweaker (UWT). This fantastic utility allows you to tweak over150 different Windows and Internet Explorer settings: www.computerhope.com/tips/tip174.htm
