Some of primary reasons to leave a job:

Lack of growth (read promotion and salary)

Lack of job enrichment and/or job rotation

Lack of recognition of your accomplishments by your manager

The best time to leave your job is if after five (5) years the company your working for has not promoted you (whether on their own volition or has consistently denied your application for promotion) and you were never given any increase in remuneration or benefits. Such stagnancy is an indicator that its time to move on.
