In my opinion, there are two different set of skills: Leadership skills and management skills. If someone has one of those sets of skills it doesn't mean that he/she has the other set by default.

Leadership Skills: Setting Vision, Formulating Goals, Setting direction, Getting people's buy in, Inspiring others, Motivating, Persuading, Resolving conflict, Empowering, Guiding, Coaching, Mentoring, Reading people.

Management Skills: Planning, Capacity Evaluation, Utilizing resources, Improving efficiency, allocating resources, solving problems, delegating, monitoring, controlling, budgeting.

Both sets of skills are different, yet important. A good leader needs to learn how to be a good manager and a good manager needs to learn how to be a good leader.

Both are having sets of talents which are valuable to any orgnization. Such talents are complementary to each other to get things done.

Great leaders may or may not become manager & vice versaFew other differences, I feel are

Managers are appointed - leaders may or may not be appointed

Managers have employee - Leaders win followers

Managers manage team - Leaders create team

Managers rely on invention - Leaders reinvent

Managers take credit - Leaders take responsibility

Managers exercise power - Leaders develop power

A leader would help to improve his "team" in order to improve the whole company structure and for sure his sales and revenue.

A manager will manage his "subordinates" to the current policy and target and will not seek to improve his team.

Bottom line, A leader helps and goes further in order to help his team and managers manages subordinates which he systematically does without being passionate about any improvement.

I hope everybody will read and understand this point !!!

We can not defferentiate between the manager and leader !

leading is one of manager's functions or advantages , so in order to be a manager you should have leadership and management skills ...etc

and in order to be only a leader then you should have leadership skills

also to add that in order to be a director , then u should have leadership , managerial and the enough experience to direct a department

What i mentioned were only part of the skills , also you have different responsibilities and tasks..

Thank you
