Factors affecting fouling :-
• Membrane properties: pore size, hydrophobicity, pore size distribution and membrane material.
• Solution properties: solid (particle) concentration, particle size and nature of components.
• Operating conditions: pH, temperature, flow rate and pressure.
Biological fouling, mineral fouling/Scaling. These are the main factors if not controlled by chemical dosing and proper pre-treatment of in-fluent (if required), reduces the life of a membrane magnificently.
Suspended Solids, Bacteria, Chlorine and Iron.
Pressure, Flow Rate and Temperature.
I would add to the first answer the scaling and its negative consequences which is the main cause of membrane deterioration
