How to calculate actual load and choose a cable size?

1.   Actual Load = Voltage x Current x Power Factor

 

2.   Cable size selection depends on many factors

 -   Length of the cable, Load, Maximum permissible voltage drop, Voltage drop/amphere/meter

 -   First of all find the Voltage Drop of cable with this equation

 -  Voltage Drop= (Current x Length of cable x Voltage drop/amphere/meter)/ ( x No. of runs of cable)

 - Then check the voltage drop within the limit of maximum permissible voltage drop.

- If not, increase the selected cable size, Please note  Voltage drop/amphere/meter for each cable different.
