ASHRAE Handbook—Fundamentals Duct Design

Total pressure is the sum of static pressure and velocity pressure

Dynamic losses = velocity pressure result from flow disturbances caused by duct mounted equipment and fittings that change the airflow path’s direction and/or area. These fittings include entries, exits, elbows, transitions, and junctions.
