flavor = Look & Feel .

it means how you are construct your design using: shapes, forms, color ...etc to feel like it is a poster for restaurant or a message to stop smoking.

Just like you put a style, identity  the looks and how do it feel by the customer especially in food products and even nonfood products; may be you apply a theme based on seasonal promotions, events, that match on the occassions.. and that's flavor..

 If I was to say a design had a flavour of something it would just be a way of saying  there was a hint of a design element in it. So...say for example you were creating an image that needed a flavour of Picasso, you'd expect a certain amount of cubism type elements to it. That sort of thing, hope that helps!
