What is the best graphic design book that you have ever read?

"Know Your Onions" and "Graphic Design Rules" are great handbooks for beginners as well as more experienced designers. "The Art of Looking Sideways" is an extraordinary tome, more a book about looking at the world around us rather than hands-on graphic design 'how to' book. "Smile in the mind" is great for inspiration.

The best design book I've read is Sun Tsu's The Art of War.
Not quite a design book until you translate it's teachings and apply it to design.
For example, there's a lesson on using your environment to your advantage.
When designing a logo, you must anticipate where and what medium or media it will appear in.
Knowing that, you can decide accordingly.
Another is "when you are strong, feign weakness; when you are weak, appear strong." Depending on the company, a small company may need a logo with more impact (almost over-kill) just to separate itself from the competition, while a huge brand may need a more subtle logo to allow it the versatility to be applied to future corporate endeavors.

i suggest don't read a book about graphic design, i will affect you and how you will become as a graphic designer.
write your own journal about the things you created from scratch, that's the best book you can ever had in graphic designing.
You will become a designer on your own right.
because all the books you gonna read are journals of an artist.
